2025 Pinning Ceremony

Significance of a Nurse Pinning ceremony...

A pinning ceremony is a tribute to Florence Nightingale who was a pioneer for the nursing profession and how by establishing ethical standards she was able to allow nursing to become a respected profession. Key components to the ceremony are: THE PIN, where in 1860"s she presented a medal of excellence to her most outstanding nursing students, it now signified by the pin given to nurses at graduation. THE NIGHTINGALE LAMP, which is a powerful symbol earned by Nightingale as she made rounds during the war to check on wounded soldiers. This lamp signifies knowledge and compassion nurses show their patient's. THE NIGHTINGALE PLEDGE, recited during many ceremonies was created in 1893 by nursing instructors in the US and named in Nigtingale's honor to serve as a formal commitment made by nurses to hold their work to the ethical standards and principles Nightingale established.
