North Carolina Nurse Honor Guard
The movement, which honors nurses at their funeral services started in 2021 as the first of its kind in Western NC. Its intent was a desire to recognize nurses' dedication to their profession. It was inspired by Military Honor Guards. The movement has expanded across NC with each chapter being in a specific area. All chapters serve to honor the contributions of nurses to healthcare. Each ceremony includes presenting a bible, a white rose, reading of the Nightingale Pledge, a final call to duty, and extinguishing the Nightingale Lamp. All of these items are then presented to the family. Living tribute services are also performed for nurses over 80 or for those requesting in their final days.
Our Nurse Volunteers
Serving those who have gone before us...
We are a group of nurse volunteers who are privileged to serve families of those Nurses at the time of their deaths by standing guard at the funerals. We find it a blessing "In their Honor and for His Glory".
